Gearing Up For The Holidays with PPC

This month, we're focusing on keywords, creative, and incentives to help you make the most of your holiday PPC campaigns.

  • Keywords: The first thing you want to do is build out keywords for any new or seasonal products you'll be offering during the holidays. The sooner you do this, the better: don't wait until the fall and then scramble to get it done!

    • Take your time and carefully select the most accurate keywords that describe your products, then run traffic evaluations to gauge their potential.
    • If you don't have a traffic estimate tool, you can use Google's free tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/TrafficEstimatorSandbox.)
    • Remember these keywords will see a seasonal spike in traffic, so if they have heavy volume now they will have more during the holidays. This will also give you a good insight into which keywords could drive up your cost quickly and to keep a closer eye on them. However, keep in mind these are just estimates based off the last 30 days of traffic and should be taken with a grain of salt; if it says a keyword will get 1000 clicks a day, that doesn't mean you will get all of those clicks, but you should probably keep a closer eye on it.
  • Ad Creative: Your ad creative can be used in many different ways to help your campaign. It's important to update it during the holiday season. Prospects want to know that you have new holiday items, or they want a reason to visit or revisit your website over your competitors' sites.

So by simply including some holiday-themed creative, searchers feel like your ad is more relevant or that you have something new because your creative goes along with the current season.

  • Incentives: It's also important to include any type of holiday promotion you may be running, such as free shipping or 10% off in your creative, because searchers are looking for a little something extra during this season and if you are offering these promotions be sure to tell them about it. The combination of holiday creative and a special promotion is even better (examples can include free holiday shipping, 10% off Christmas Sale, etc.).

Remember to start now and give yourself as much time as possible to create, evaluate, and launch these initiatives; the holiday season is here now, and there's no time to lose!
